The Channel Islands and Santa Barbara Channel are renown as some of the most productive waters for whales and dolphins in California. This area consistency attracts a large volume of feeding whales such a Humpbacks and Blues, sightings of which are highly prized among whale watchers. In addition there is strong diversity of toothed whale species, and not only the typical Common, Bottlenose, and Risso's Dolphin. Dall's Porpoise, Northern Right Whale Dolphins, Sperm Whale, and Killer Whales are seen with varying frequency in this area.

This 8 hour trip is a "best chance freelance" trip. Meaning, we will be targeting whatever the captain determines to be the highest chance of success and quality of trip. It could mean heading WEST past Santa Barbara toward Santa Rosa Island, it could be going SOUTH of Santa Cruz Island, or even EAST in the direction of Malibu. The goal is to have high quality Whale Watching wherever it may occur within range of the harbor for an all day trip. A "whale promise" is offered to you this trip. In the rare event no whales are sighted on this 8 hour expedition, a voucher for 50% off your next 8 hour trip will be emailed to you.

THINGS TO KNOW:

-The "Tern" is an open boat. It makes for an awesome viewing and photography platform, but you will need to dress for EXPOSURE to the elements. Those elements are sun, cold wind, and potential for occasional ocean spray. For your comfort you NEED to bring: hat, sunglasses, pants, and a jacket at minimum.

-We are not permitted to land on any of the Channel Islands. Please prepare to be on board the boat all day, and to bring your own food and drinks.

-There is a marine toilet on board in a private space within the console of the boat. The toilet is small but has electric flush. It's meant for occasional use, not abuse.
